BRZRKR (2027) — Keanu Reeves trades John Wick’s suits for an 80,000-year war as an immortal god-warrior in Netflix’s ultra-violent adaptation of his own comic book! Fast & Furious director Justin Lin officially boards the “brutally epic” action film that could launch Keanu’s next massive franchise — complete with an anime spinoff. This is the action saga more savage than anything Wick could imagine!
In this breaking Netflix production update, we reveal everything confirmed about BRZRKR — the live-action adaptation officially directed by Fast & Furious franchise veteran Justin Lin as announced in March 2025. Keanu Reeves created the ultra-violent comic book series alongside Matt Kindt and artist Ron Garney through Boom! Studios in 2021, and the first issue became a massive phenomenon selling over 615,000 copies with the entire series totaling 3.5 million copies worldwide and raising over $1.4 million on Kickstarter. Now Netflix has assembled a powerhouse team: Justin Lin directing and producing via his Perfect Storm banner after helming five Fast & Furious films and Star Trek Beyond, The Batman Part II co-writer Mattson Tomlin penning the screenplay after writing the Batman film and producing Netflix’s acclaimed Terminator Zero anime, and Keanu Reeves starring as the lead character and producing alongside Stephen Christy for Boom! Studios, Stephen Hamel of Company Films, and Boom! Studios co-founder Ross Richie.
The film adaptation reunites Lin and Reeves after the John Wick star became an angel investor in Lin’s indie drama Last Days which premiered at Sundance Film Festival in January 2025, stepping in when financing fell through at a critical moment. Lin called Reeves an “angel” of that movie after the actor called out of the blue saying “I heard you’re having some problems. I want to help,” inspiring Lin to return the favor by directing BRZRKR.
We cover the full story premise according to Netflix’s official synopsis: BRZRKR is “a brutally epic saga about an immortal warrior’s 80,000 year fight through the ages” following the man known only as “B” who is half-mortal and half-god, cursed and compelled to violence even at the sacrifice of his sanity, but after wandering the earth for centuries B may have finally found refuge working for the U.S. government to fight battles too violent and too dangerous for anyone else, in exchange for the one thing he desires — the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence and how to end it. The character’s comic book likeness was designed to look like Keanu Reeves himself with art by Ron Garney, character designs and covers by Rafael Grampá, colors by Bill Crabtree, and letters by Clem Robins.
Plus, we discuss Keanu Reeves confirming he wants an “R-rated” story and that it will NOT be a one-for-one remake of the novel, the 2024 novel The Book of Elsewhere written by China Miéville and Reeves becoming a New York Times bestseller published by Del Rey (Penguin Random House), the separate BRZRKR anime series also in development at Netflix with Mattson Tomlin returning as writer and showrunner for two seasons with Reeves expected to voice the character, Reeves previously considering directing BRZRKR himself stating there was a “33% chance” before deciding to collaborate with the right director (which became Justin Lin), Netflix clearly hoping to turn BRZRKR into a major streaming franchise with potential sequels given Lin’s proven track record transforming Fast & Furious into a multi-billion dollar franchise, and whether this immortal warrior saga can become Keanu’s next John Wick-level phenomenon combining the visceral action of Wick with mythology-driven storytelling spanning millennia.
